Looper went to great lengths to make Joseph Gordon-Levitt look like a younger Bruce Willis, and this feat involved no small amount of visual trickery. Looper's time travel story focuses on Joe, a hitman who executes gangsters sent back by criminals from the future. As one of the titular "Loopers," Joe must one day kill his future self to close the loop, and this premise demanded Rian Johnson cast one older actor and one younger actor to portray Joe. Joseph Gordon-Levitt landed the role of present-day Joe, while the future version looking for revenge against Looper's Rainmaker was played by Bruce Willis.
