Don't Be Fooled, PlayStation 6 Won't Be Cheaper With Digital-Only Consoles

With the end of production of discs for PlayStation consoles, some fans may be led to believe that the upcoming PlayStation 6 console will be cheaper, seeing that it won’t have a disc drive, but that is most likely a huge misconception. Earlier this week, Sony announced that it will be bringing a permanent end to discs for PlayStation consoles, with production ceasing in January 2028. Effectively, this means that players will only be able to purchase games via digital means.
